So we’ve gone festive here at Words Become Superfluous – after all, Christmas is only 52 days away!
As promised, today I’m going to walk you through creating a custom background and header for your blog, so that you can let your festive flag fly too, if you so desire. Ready? Here we go!
The first step is to find images to use as the basis of your background and header (you’ll customize them later). If you have original photos of your own, fantastic! If you’re like me, and your Shutterbug Sis actually has her own life and isn’t available to take photos on demand, you can start with stock photos. There are some good royalty-free stock photo sites out there; the one I use most often is www.freestockphotos.biz
.The next stepĀ is to customize your photos to create original, one of a kind images that are for your blog and your blog only! I use the free online program Pixlr to edit my images, but you can use whatever program you’re comfortable with. You only need to use a couple of basic functions, and they should be available on most programs. Here’s how it would look if you used Pixlr, like I did:
Use the “Appearances” tab to upload your image to WordPress and select it as your background
(Remember to also match the background colour)
You did it! That’s all you need to do to create a custom background for your blog!
Have a fun and festive weekend everyone! And if you create your own background, be sure to link to it here in the Comments, so that we can all admire your work!

OMG it may be easy …but at 12pm Friday night I cannot think..I shall re-investigate when my eyes are open
Let me know how it goes!
k,,,i can’t do it,,,i suck
You do not! No worries my friend, we got this. Email me the picture you want to use, and I’ll get you all set up
Thx buddy I will!
I get how to do this…what I can’t wrap my head around is the stunningly low number that sits between this day and Christmas. I am not ready to think about it all yet…!!
I know, it’s completely crazy how fast this year has flown by. I’ll be here waiting with an eggnog latte when you’re ready to think about the holidays my friend! xo.
I don’t think I can actually decorate my blog AND my house….oh, the pressure!
But it’s such pretty, festive pressure! Right? Teeheehee
