My Favourite Television Show You’ve Never Heard Of: Graceland

Well hello! Would you look at that – we made it to Thursday! You’re all looking bright eyed and upbeat and – does anyone else not have a voice this morning? No? Just me? Huh. Interesting.

Never mind; I don’t need to talk today. We can just look. (Apologies in advance to my male readers: you guys can just scroll down a bit and then we’ll get to the playing cops and robbers part of the post. Stick with me though, it’s a really good game of cops and robbers, I promise). Meanwhile: ladies, are we ready?

Whew! See? No words needed.

Now, on to the promised cops and robbers portion of our day. As you may have guessed from the impeccably groomed nature of the gentlemen above, today’s Television Show You’ve Never Heard of is brought to you by the USA network. The USA network is known for its “blue sky” format, of which I am an unabashed fan. (Five previously profiled Favourites air on USA). We all know that amb likes her summer television to be attractive, escapist fare, and “Graceland” is no different.

Almost.

Graceland episode two

See, boys? Action! Ridiculously good looking action!

Yes, everyone’s well coiffed and well dressed and well lit (that sunshine really sparkles in LA!) but they’re also a little darker, a little deeper, and a little more devious than the folks who are usually on USA. “Graceland” refers to a (supposedly real) house that was seized from a drug dealer (who had a very big thing for Elvis) that the government took over in 1992. FBI, DEA, and ICE agent all live together in the house and run undercover operations out of it. And none of them are exactly what you would call model employees, either. Which means that, to quote one of my favourite fictional characters, “Everybody Lies.”

“Graceland” is grittier, and steamier, and seamier, than my usual summer programming. Unlike other USA shows, it’s serialized, so there’s an overarching mystery that’s going to unfold over the summer’s ten episode run. Which means there’s lots of time for everyone to get their stories straight … and then lie some more.

Graceland airs on Thursday nights at 10, on USA Network is the States and on Bravo here in Canada. In the meantime, I promise I won’t lie to you, and we’ll have some very true words here tomorrow, for WoW Friday. I can’t wait to see you then!

love amb

    • It’s a fun one, for sure. On the gritty/steamy/seamy scale, it’s still got a ways to go before it reaches, say, “Dexter”, but it’s definitely something a little different. Plus, you know, *swoon*. Glad you enjoyed the eye candy! πŸ˜€

  1. I watch this one. I think the guy from Rescue Me who plays FBI Elvis is doing an excellent version of The King. I just wish they’d play more of Elvis’ music during each episode. And which of the women is supposed to be Priscilla? I get so confused… πŸ˜€

  2. See? My world view has expanded just a fraction more by tuning into WBS. Looks like fun summertime fare πŸ™‚ The big Q, of course, is what sort of snacks go best with Graceland?

The other big Q is: why have you lost your voice? Too much mafficking with the Paper Things ladies?

Thanks for the fun read, amb!

    • Oh, oh, I know this one! Fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches!! That’s classic Elvis fare, right Liz? πŸ™‚

There’s actually a lot of food on the show – the characters spend a lot of time at beachfront food trucks, eating hot dogs and fish tacos and all manner of really tasty, really bad for you type things. I am seeing a lot of menu possibilities here, now that you mention it!

I actually lost my voice on Tuesday night, while out with Deb and the other ladies. And the mafficking (LOVE how you worked that in there, by the way) at Paper Things last night didn’t help either! Good thing we’re almost at the weekend!!

The read was my pleasure. Thank YOU for the fun comment, my friend πŸ™‚

      • I would watch a show for food trucks. If the guys smolder and are bad-boy good looking, all the better!

I jest not when I say that I incorporate much of what I read at WBS into my life: books, movies, TV shows, words, … Your posts have become a bit of a style guide for me πŸ™‚

can’t imagine you losing your voice. do folks give you a bad time over it? am sure there are lots of jokes to be made at your expense on that.

Hoping you’ll either blog about your paper things party or send me a special report as I’m so curious! How did your (germ-free) antipasti go over? Did other folks bring food? And what about the cocktails?

      • Yes, exactly. There are all kinds of reasons to watch!

Oh goodness, I’m blushing! I take that as quite the compliment, since Shutterbug is usually known as the stylish one around here and I’m the one with all of the hobbies that I’m, erm, enthusiastic, about. I’ve never been anyone’s style guide before!! πŸ˜€

LOL! Yup, they really do and yup, there are jokes. Lots and lots of jokes. And innuendos about having a “telephone voice” πŸ˜‰

Heading home shortly and would love to send you a special report! I’m on it!

    • Yes!! Exactly!!!

You get my vote for comment of the day (I’m going to have to come up with some sort of emoticon for that …)

And it’s not even noon here yet! Well played.

  3. Now that looks interesting. I might have to find some time to check it out. Thanks for the heads-up.

Looking forward to WoW Friday. I just love saying that, WoW Friday. πŸ™‚

  4. oh man. i might just start watching it becuase those two gentlemen (i use that term loosely!) are oh so nice to look at. i mean why else do i watch half the shows i watch? clearly it’s for the plot, drama and character development.

    • Yes, plot. That’s it, we watch Vampire Diaries for the plot. (Actually we kind of do! πŸ™‚ )

They are lovely to look at indeed. I have the episodes on my pvr, so you can come over and enjoy the scenery anytime!

      • LOLOLOL so true!! and then we got sucked in …. sucked … vampires … see what I did there? (I know, I know; but I couldn’t help myself!)

        Awesomesauce. Come over anytime πŸ™‚

  5. I don’t think we get that one here in Aus, Amb – but I’m going to keep an eye out for it anyway (you never know what’s on until you really search for it) πŸ˜‰
