WoW Fridays: Anatole France

Oh my goodness, it’s Friday. We made it!

I have to admit, I wasn’t sure how this week was going to turn out for us. Last Friday set awfully high standards for fun and excitement around here … and then I got sick. And then real life picked up speed for a while, and Corporate World did too, and the hamsters ran off their wheels while still ingesting cold medicine and things got a little … hectic.

hamsterI should have known that you Wonderfuls would be here to keep the conversation going! Thanks to everyone, both long time readers and new ones too, who stopped by this week to chat. Blogging has become such a big part of my life over the past year, and having you here helped keep me feeling centered while the hamsters were, you know, doing their thing.

Today’s quote captures that sense of balance nicely, I think:

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.”

-Anatole France (1921 Nobel Prize Laureate.)

Thanks to my friend Fannie Cranium for the submission! Don’t forget, you can send in a quote for WoW Fridays anytime, either here or on the Words Become Superfluous Facebook page.Β

Monday is a holiday here in Canada, but we all know chances are good that I’ll be popping by for a quick visit anyway. Enjoy your weekends everyone!

love amb

    • Thanks hun, you too! Are you going to be feeling cool and comfy now that you’ve got your summer hair? (See, I remembered the dates this time!) What’s the verdict? Do you like it?

      • thank you for remembering, amb πŸ™‚ bad news is, it didn’t happen. letizia was right. it has to be maintained more often than i thought and i know i won’t have the time. so i settled on a longer cut. a letdown, huh. enjoy your saturday.

      • lol the only letdown is because I thought you’d get a good post out of the experience. I’m confident that you look good either way πŸ™‚

  1. can’t believe I’m still up when this went live and I’m STILL the fourth to Like! Great quote–Fannie knows her stuff. Goes back to a comment thread a while ago about what makes things happen–ourselves and our hard work (or lack of) OR the universe. Thinking we agreed some of each and that’s exactly what Anatole France said way back in 1921. We were right–yay! *high-five Barney (HIMYM)-style*

Hope the cold medicine gets you through Friday and hope you get lots of rest over the long weekend.

    • I can’t believe you were still up either! I know you had a crazy nonstop day yesterday, weren’t you exhausted?!? Well, even if you were sleep deprived, I have to admit I’m happy about it because I didn’t think I’d see you today Liz!

Yes, I remember that comment thread, it was a good one! This totally connects to it, you’re right! We’re AWESOME! *as Barney would say. LOVE that you’re bringing HIMYM to the party!!! *

Thanks very much! It’s going to be a nice, relaxing weekend, I think πŸ™‚

      • haven’t left for the road trip yet, and of course had to check emails, etc before leaving. And I couldn’t help but note that Dave came over to drop a few sweet nothings and my but it sounds like he is celebrating an anniversary of sorts! I quote: “darling, last Friday was one of those once-an-eon events that can’t be topped. It can only be remembered fondly and frequently.” Translation: Happy 1-week-annivesary, amb!” awwww….

Definitely enjoyed your response. Showgirls, huh? I’ll be watching his facebook feed for sure.

      • Of course! You need to make sure you’re all caught up before heading out πŸ™‚

Aww! I like your translation skills Liz. I hadn’t even thought of that! (Shocking, I know. You’d think I’d be all over that one! I blame the germs).

LOL well I’ve never been to Vegas, but I watch a lot of movies, and that seems to happen more than you’d think πŸ˜‰

  2. Hi Amb!

{First – I am right behind you Liz! I should NOT still be up, but here we night owls are}.

Great quote, great words of wisdom and definitely one to ponder. Hoping the weekend brings a chance for you and the hamsters to get off the wheel and just have a little sit, with perhaps a little something cold to drink in one hand, and the tv remote in the other. That’s my plan, so maybe we can keep up this mind-meld in-sync thing. Love that you get a holiday after all this whirling dervish stuff you’ve been up to! xo

    • Hi Bon!

I have to admit, as much as I want you and Liz to look after yourselves and get your rest, it’s lovely for me to see your names right at the top of the Comments section first thing in the morning! πŸ™‚

Glad you like the quote, I agree, it’s definitely a good one to ponder. I also wholeheartedly agree with your weekend plan, and fully support keeping our mind-meld-in-sync thing going. Cold drink and the remote control, check!

Have a wonderful weekend yourself, my friend!!

  3. Amb, darling, last Friday was one of those once-an-eon events that can’t be topped. It can only be remembered fondly and frequently. It was a heck of a day.

If you need to find me over the next few days, I’ll be in Las Vegas, probably watching boxing or doing other less-kosher things. πŸ™‚ Enjoy your long weekend!

    • Don’t I know it! Last Friday was the stuff of legend. Remembered fondly, indeed.

I also know you’re off to LV for the weekend – I pay attention when you talk, remember? πŸ˜‰ Have a wonderful time, but maybe keep some of the less kosher things to yourself … if you come back married to a showgirl I just … I just don’t want to know, ok? xo.

  4. Oh my goodness, so disappointed. I saw the mouse photo, the title Anatole France, and thought wow! Amb is doing a post on one of my favourite childhood books “Anatole” ( a french beret wearing mouse). But then I discover it’s more about hamsters running off their wheels…

    • Oh no! Jenn!! I’m so sorry that today’s post wasn’t what you were expecting – I hate it when that happens!

If it makes you feel any better I do indeed remember the most honourable Anatole the mouse and his excellent taste in cheese! Such a great book πŸ˜€

  5. Mais oui !

I loved that little guy and also thought we would hear something about Anatole, the little french mouse.
Amber, you probably had that book in your childhood library, yes?

    • Mais oui!

Anatole is a most honourable mouse. He didn’t realize, you see, that humans don’t like it when he takes their leftovers home to feed his mouse family, and so he’s determined to stop doing that and get a proper job instead. He goes to a cheese factory and leaves tasting notes. Naturally his excellent advice leads to the factory making the most delicious cheese in all of Paris! πŸ™‚

  6. Soooooo, that’s what you were hinting at yesterday. Thank you for using the quote. I love the way it really connects with this last week. πŸ™‚

Have a lovely Canada Day on Monday, I hope you feel better soon!

    • Teehee! Yup, that was it! I’m pretty smooth, huh? (Not!!)

I love how it connected with the week too! It was just perfect πŸ™‚

Thank you! I’m sure I will. Have a lovely weekend yourself!

    • Thanks Dianne! I hope you enjoy your weekend, too. What’s the weather like in your corner of Aus? It’s pouring rain here right now, but I’m tucked in cozy at home, so I don’t mind πŸ™‚

      • It’s sunny and warm here (which is good considering it’s winter), that’s what you get when you live in the tropics πŸ˜€ My daughter is going home today from her holiday here and I believe it’s very cold in her neck of the woods, so it may come as a bit of a shock to her πŸ˜‰

      • Sunny and warm in the winter?!? I’m sorry, I’m a Canadian girl; I don’t understand this concept πŸ˜€

I hope you had a wonderful vacation with your daughter! The photos I saw on your blog looked pretty fabulous to me πŸ™‚

      • My son’s girlfriend was over here from Canada. She is the one on the far left of the group photo on the beach (on my latest post). She’s gone back to Canada now – and I believe is returning to get more of our warmth soon! πŸ˜€

  7. Enjoy Canada Day, Amb. I know I’ll have fun in some shape, form or other. I can’t wait to see what this year holds with our town’s events. There’s always a surprise in store for us regular visitors! Anyway, I hope you’re having a great weekend!

    BTW, love the quote!

    • Thanks Jack! I hope you have a fabulous holiday too. You’re absolutely right, there’s always something going on in this city of ours, which is one of my very favourite things about it! Can’t wait to hear all about what you get up to this weekend πŸ™‚

I'd love to hear what you think!
