WoW Fridays: Otis Redding

It’s Friday! We made it!! Is that some kind of wonderful, or what?!

Yes, we started the week with John Hughes and we’re ending with him, too. Because it’s my blog and I can stay stuck in the 80s if I want to, that’s why.

Actually, the truth is that it’s a song, and not a particular decade, that’s been stuck in my head lately. Thanks to a video clip from a certain Youtube-savvy commenter of mine, I’ve been humming under my breath since yesterday morning. But it turns out Otis is good for much more than helping me get my groove on and dancing around the pocket-sized place on a Thursday.

The past few weeks have been busy ones, and the next few show no signs of slowing down. Which is fine with me; I love being busy, and feeling engaged with the outside world beyond what’s on my television screen. The tricky part is figuring out how to do that and take care of myself at the same time.

If you look back through the Friday archives around here, you might notice a common theme. Some of my favourite WoW quotes have come from trying to find sexier ways of saying “Don’t panic”. But after some deep thought, (and some kitchen dance parties) I’ve decided that Otis got it right. Instead of frantically trying to act calm and pretend I’m a grown up when all the crazy hits, from now on, I’m going to try and go a little easier on myself.

Try a little tenderness (That’s all you gotta do). – Otis Redding

I hope your weekends are full of love and tenderness and kitchen dance parties. See you next week everyone!

love amb

  1. perhaps wdydfae’s efforts are paying off–amb’s going to take care of herself πŸ™‚ Though I’ll also share the only mantra that’s been working for me: Embrace the Chaos. Thinking the two quotes can co-exist quite happily! Happy Friday, hard-working friend.

    • I’m trying! I’m trying !! It’s a process πŸ™‚

Loving your mantra. It’s a good one! Sometimes embracing the chaos is really the only thing you can do. Happy Friday to you too Liz πŸ˜€

  2. Amb, I want you to know . . . I actually saw that movie!!!!! Cool, huh?

It goes without saying that being connected with an Amb Post ™ is the pinnacle of human existence. It just doesn’t. Get. Any. Better. Than. That.

And it’s good advice that you extracted from Otis, for sure!

  3. Boy does that video make me feel nostalgic! I even remember owning a collection of “K-tel” records (you may notice it in the background when the Duckman is dancing) among my vinyl collection.

Great quote, enjoy the weekend. And like Liz says “Embrace the chaos.”

  4. I love this song. The Michael Buble version…sigh!
Go easy on yourself. I find I excel when I am kind to myself. When we’re negative or forceful, we sabotage ourselves.
Have a maaaaahvelous weekend. Enjoy some coffee and R&R. πŸ™‚

    • Michael Buble … *swoon*. Nothing quite says “rest and relaxation” like Michael Buble’s voice, does it?!? He’s just. So. Smooth.

Wise words about sabotaging ourselves, but then, that’s what I’ve come to expect from you lovely! So thank you! And enjoy some coffee and R&R yourself. xoxoxox

    • Off the record: I’ll never tell! πŸ™‚ Teehee. I’m not doing it to be sneaky; if I named names I wouldn’t be able to talk about Corporate World here anymore, so it’s better to keep things general. I’ll tell you what I’ve said in other posts: I work for one of “the Big 3” telecommunications companies here in Canada. That’s as close as you’re going to get! πŸ˜‰

I'd love to hear what you think!
