Wordful Wednesday for October 30, 2013

Tatterdemalion !!!

Hi. Good morning. Hello. I’m sorry about that; but I’ve been keeping this word to myself for days now, and I just couldn’t hold it in any longer.

Tatterdemalion !!!

Is that not the most wonderful and glorious word you’ve ever heard in your life ?!?

The goal around here, at least on Wednesdays, is to sound kind of sort of smart; or entertaining at the very least, so that if nothing else you’re smiling while listening to me trip over my tongue and some newly discovered syllables. I’m usually able to link the word back to something that’s happening in my day to day life, or, if I’m lucky, to get a really good story about a boy out of the whole thing.

There’s none of that here for you today, my friends. I just found this word in the pages of “Longbourn” (I know, I know, I’ll have to stop talking about it eventually) and haven’t been able to stop saying it since.

Tatterdemalion: ragged or tattered; ragamuffin.

In other words …

Nope. Still nothing. My brain has turned tatterdemalion with excitement and I can’t come up with a single good sentence for this one.

So I’m turning the show over to you! Use tatterdemalion in a sentence today, oh articulate readers of mine, and tell me what you said in the Comments! I promise I will read each and every single one! Out loud !!!

love amb

  1. Hi Amb! What an awesome word…I am going to feel so very tired and tatterdemalion in the morning – and the rest of the day, most likely, as I am just getting in for the night after spending a weeknight out hearing two AMAZING music groups..Miss Tess and The Talkbacks who kicked off the show for Lake Street Dive. Yes, I will most definitely pay the price and feel like a ragamuffin all of tomorrow, but it was totally worth it..the vocals were simply outstanding! For now..night night! xoxo

    • Hi Bon!! That sounds about right – great live music is worth all of the tatterdemalioness in the world, I think. I’m so glad you had a good time! Can’t wait to hear all about it xoxoxox

PS: Tess and the Talkbacks ?!? Best band name ever !!!

  2. Late-night hours and early-morning rising often leave me feeling tatterdemalion, though a good nap can make me feel like a million bucks.

How’s that, amb? Good morning to you and thanks for another lovely word that is great fun to say 😀

    • That is brilliant my friend, brilliant! And I hear you on the joys of a good nap 😀

Good morning to you as well! I owe you a note (or two). They’re coming. Stay tuned!

    • Oh no! I don’t want you to pass out, but I love that you used tatterdemalion in a sentence, just now. It makes me so happy when my words can find a good home 🙂

    • Hehehe. Nicely done, Beth! Although a vocabulary like that has got to be worth more than a nickel – I’m sure you’ll get at least 10 cents!!
