WoW Fridays: Ernest Hemingway

Oh, good, you’re here. Hi. Come on in. I have to ask you a really important question.

How’s my hair ?!?

Yes, it’s Friday date night at Words Become Superfluous, and if you ask me, it’s about time. It’s been a challenging week for me in Corporate World, and I’m more than happy to be at the end of it. As usual, you’ve all been my outlet and my stress relief, and I basically got through the week by talking your ear off here every day. Which brings us to today’s quote:

All bad writers are in love with the epic. – Ernest Hemingway

Otherwise known as, amb, chill. Take a breath. Or two. And put the words on hold for a minute. It’s all about balance, right?

And if my version of “balance” happens to involve a virtual date with a tall and very talented blogger, well, so much the better !!!

Come on. If I’m going to stop talking, it’s going to be for something good. Earlier this week I managed to turn a Sunshine Award into a not-so-subtle hint that I wanted to go speed dating with EJ. Luckily for me, he finds my excessive exclamation marks endearing, and was happy to oblige. And so were you! You sent in so many great questions that we’re not going to be able to answer them all today. (So we’ll have to do this again. Oh, darn). But here’s round one of your questions – and our speedy 10 word answers.

What’s your blogging ritual, if you have one? What Iā€™m really asking is: how do you manage to write such fun, upbeat posts pretty much every day of the week?

amb: Talking to y’all makes my life brighter. Also, there’s coffee.

What’s one thing you’ve learned since you started blogging?

EJ: The completely unbridled, untamed whole you, is the best you.

If you won big in the lottery, how would you spend down the money?

amb: Lots of concerts. Travel. A beach house full of books.

Describe your perfect Friday night:

EJ: Pub with friends, home with friends. Conversation, laughs, food, drink.

Describe your first date. Where you would go, what you would do, wear, eat, any details that you can fit in!

amb: Live music, great food, gin and tonics, long goodnight kiss

Does amb get a second date?

EJ: The first DOZEN are locked in, dare she be willing!

Is my hair still ok?? Do I have anything in my teeth?? In my perfectly calm and non-excessive opinion, I think that went pretty well, don’t you?!?
And since I promised a soundtrack, and since he’s been stuck in my head ever since I read the lovely Kaela’s post, here’s Jamie Cullum to sing us out and set the mood. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! (EJ, call me!)

love amb

    • Why thank you! The feeling is most definitely mutual – but you already knew that šŸ˜‰

Isn’t that a great quote? He has so many good ones, it was tough to narrow it down. Although I have to admit that I’ve never read any of Hemingway’s novels … will you still (virtually) date me anyway?

      • Agreed, he does have a fantastic array of quotes. You would’ve had trouble picking a bad one, I suppose! Hehe, of course, that doesn’t change a thing. It’s not like you’re dating Hemingway! šŸ˜‰

    • My pleasure. Thank you for the song inspiration! So much goodness.

I sure thought was! I had a ball and am hoping EJ will want to do this again. Soon. šŸ˜‰

    • Is he? Oh, good, because I’d like to include him on next year’s Reading Challenge and I wouldn’t know which of his novels to pick or where to start. I’ll be counting on your expertise!

  1. nicely done–love that you already have a dozen locked down šŸ™‚ Takes a bit of the pressure off. Though you’ll want to keep EJ on his toes–no need for him to get too comfortable šŸ˜‰ Great playlist. Liking the lyrics of the first song especially.

Ernest Hemingway is a fave here, though haven’t read much. Funnily enough, my introduction to him was through this:
Just found a WordPress blog by the same name (To Have and Have Another) with drink recipes. Now the Hemingway books are on my to-read list. What an intense life.

    Wishing you an amazing weekend!

    • I know, right?! Having 12 dates on the books was a nice surprise for me too šŸ˜‰ But you’re absolutely right, I’ll have to find some ways to keep things interesting. Perish the thought that a virtual date with me could ever be seen as “routine”!

That book looks great! I’m loving the title too – so clever. Hemingway is on my to-read list now, too šŸ™‚

  2. This is just sevenTEEN kinds of awesome! And why rules were made to be broken. SO well done Amb! and EJ!! Thanks for letting all of us sitting at the table right next to yours in the little bistro where there is like 3 inches between tables listen in on your awesome conversation. Looking forward to the next date night! Love the Hemingway quote, btw. Off the chain today, my friend. Now. go have yourself a gin and tonic and a fabulous CW free weekend! xoxo

    • Teeheehee! SevenTEEN kinds of awesome – I see what you did there, and I so appreciate the compliment! Thank you Bon!! I had such a good time with this post, and I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed reading it just as much šŸ™‚

  3. First of all, thank you for introducing me to that video. I love how you’re expanding my musical experience every Friday.

Secondly, I had an exam on Friday and ran out of time to comment.

Saving the best for last, love what you did with your speed date. Looking forward to the next installment.

    • First of all, I love that you made a list. You’re truly speaking my language, my friend!

Second of all, how was the exam?? I hope it went well! What subject? Tell me more !!!

Third, I’m so glad that you liked the speed date! We all need to say nice things about EJ so that he’ll come back and take me out again šŸ˜‰

      • The exam went well, it was on international trade and export laws. I missed one question. It happens every year with UK anti-bribery laws (I get it confused with the EU’s laws). . .I’ll keep trying until I get it right. šŸ™‚

I, too, have a love of lists.

Lastly, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that EJ will come back.
