My Life as a Movie Monday: Serendipity

Good morning! How are you? Happy to be at the fresh start of a brand new week??

I know. Not exactly my usual Monday greeting, right? It’s a new thing I’m trying. Aside from some fabulous new accessories, I brought a new, beach-inspired attitude back with me from California. I’m trying to let go of a lot of the people and things that stress me out … that I happen to have no control over whatsoever. Like Monday mornings. They’re going to show up on a weekly basis whether I want them to or not, so I might as well just relax about the whole day.

Besides, Monday morning means that I get to hang out here with you and talk about movies, which we haven’t had the chance to do in a while. So let’s get to it!

I wanted to pick a movie to reflect my recent travels, and let me tell you, there are a lot of movies set in San Francisco. Like, a whole lot. And a lot of them happen to be ones that I really, really like, which is perfect, because last week, I:

  • Got to spend time with people I really, really liked, and;
  • Got to explore a city I really, really liked, and;
  • Got to watch a television show that I really, really, really liked *

So, last week, my life as a movie was “Serendipity”

No, I didn’t have an epic, kismet romance with John Cusack. (I mean, come on. Let’s be realistic and sensible about this. I love you to bits, but do you really think I’d be here talking to you right now if I could be somewhere else not talking with John?!?) But a lot of things came together in an absolutely perfect, fateful way on my trip last week, and this movie is set during the holidays, and I saw some fabulous Christmas trees during my travels, and there’s a pretty fabulous tree up at the pocket-sized place right now … plus, I really, really, really like this movie a whole lot.

Saturday was “The Day of the Doctor” – the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, and I just can’t. I can’t even. I’m just not even ready to talk about the many levels of amazingness yet. We’ll save this one for later in the week.
love amb

  1. so glad the Dr. Who date went well 🙂 And also glad the San Fran vibe is still there. And what’s this about a John Cusack movie I didn’t even know existed? Off to netflix next. What would I do without you, amb?

    I remember watching What’s Up, Doc? (with Barbara Streisand, not Bugs Bunny) after returning from San Francisco as I wanted to see the streets we’d just traveled on the big screen. Have you seen? My kids hooted at a line about Secret Government Underwear. Stands out as one of the funniest moments I’ve had with them. There’s also a fun pizza-tossing scene 🙂

    Welcome to Monday, amb. Keep kicking the stress to the curb 😀

    • Thank you Liz! It was pretty much the best date of my life (and PS can I tell you how much I love that you understand it was, actually, a date?!?! SO MUCH!!!)

      You will like Serendipity very much, I think. It’s adorable. The movie, I mean, although of course John is too 😉 I haven’t seen What’s Up Doc, so there you go, we’re even! Will add it to my list. Looking forward to that secret underwear 😉

      Hope you’re kicking stress around this Monday too, my friend!

  2. happy you had a great time, amb. i loved that movie too and now you are making me crave chocolate, but i must say that is not a bad thing – welcome back )

  3. hooray! you’re back. i’ve never been to SF during the christmas season and it looks fabulous! i’m so glad you had such a relaxing time and the opportunity to see so much. you’re right about mondays though… among other things. sometimes you just gotta goozefraba through it…

    • Fabulous is the very word! You would love it for sure. About as much as I love your point about goozfraba-ing your way through Mondays … you make me so happy !!! 😀

  4. Welcome back. We missed your sunshine in this corner of the internet. Love the pictures of S.F. what a great city. And that little pint sized tree.

    Where you there when the Make-A-Wish foundation turned it into Gotham for a day for “Bat Boy”?

    Enjoy the whole relaxed California state of mind. The holidays are coming. 😉

    • Thanks Fannie! I missed you all, too. So glad you liked the pictures. And my little tiny tree! I wish you could see it – it’s so much more blue in person 🙂

      We arrived after things had been “Gotham-ized” but it was still on the news. Wasn’t that amazing?!?

      The holidays are coming! The holidays are coming!! Just wait until you see what I have planned 😉

  5. Just want to take a moment to say thank you, Amb. I haven’t been commenting much lately, but I have been smiling every time I catch up on your blog, and that is SO needed right now. So – again – just thanks! (Love the trees – need to see the movie, obviously!)

    • Karen, it is my absolute pleasure. You are so welcome, and I’m so happy that you’re finding what you need here! Come back any time, my friend 🙂

  6. Love love love! I need to watch that movie again! Such a good one! Mondays can be a drag, but why let it get us down? When it all boils down, it’s just another beautiful day to be thankful for. And I hope yours was lovely!

  7. Unlike everyone else, I can’t quite say I am glad that you are ‘back’ for that means you are back there and not still here! For some reason, that I just moments ago realized, most of my WP email notices were being redirected to my spam folder! Travesty! For your blog and a few others! So, I am behind and catching up – in more ways than one, but the important thing is that here you are! But I love reading about your visit when I kind of already knew some of the details! CA is better for having you here for a few days!! I know I am!! xoxox

  8. Glad you had an awesome trip! Sounded relaxing, which makes me happy to hear. I love Serendipity too. Finally got ’round to buying it the other day. Actually would’ve been eerily close to when this was posted. Haha. And I couldn’t blame you for disappearing in the name of John Cusack either. He is amazing.Love the photos too! 🙂

    • Trust the two of us to have a serendipitous moment related to that movie. I love it! And glad you like the photos. I’m no Shutterbug, but with scenery like that it’s hard to take a bad shot 🙂
