Good morning! Can you believe that we’re on Day Ten of our virtual advent calendar already?! I can’t. Where has this week gone?!? I know I say this to you all of the time, but my goodness, time flies when I’m hanging out here with you.
This week has passed me by in a blur of desserts and virtual dates and more desserts. Which was, quite frankly, exactly what I needed after slogging through a particularly rough stretch in Corporate World; and I’m so glad that I got to share it with you.
I had originally planned to re-post some old favourite Words of Wisdom today, to continue our sweet trend. but when I thought about it I realized I wanted to talk about another kind of sugar instead.
(No, not that kind of sugar – EJ’s not here today. Besides, my mom reads this blog from time to time. Hi, Mom!)
No, I decided that today I wanted to talk about a very particular kind of sweetness, that feeling that settles over us at this time of year when we realize just how lucky we are to have each other.
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
– Nelson Mandela
People have written and remembered a great deal about President Mandela since he passed away earlier this month (and I hope they continue to do so for a long time) but this quote in particular has stayed with me recently. There is so much ridiculous pressure on us to be healthy at this time of year (“Eat Like a Small Woodland Creature and Avoid Holiday Weight Gain!” screams every magazine cover ever issued in December,) but when I heard this quote, I couldn’t help thinking that this is the only “natural diet” we need to follow.
Just love. That’s it.
Let’s stick to that meal plan, okay?
I’ll be here continuing our virtual advent calendar until December 24th, but if I don’t see you, have a safe and wonderful holiday season! Look after yourselves, and look after each other, would you? Here’s today’s treat to send you on your way. It comes, of course, with love:
