WoW Fridays: A.E Stallings

Good morning, and Happy Favourite Day of the Week! Yes, it’s Friday, and yes, I’m very happy about it. For one thing, today brings me one step closer to swooning over Allan Hawco in person.

For another thing, it’s been quite a week, to say the least, and I’m happy to be leaving it behind and embarking on my weekend adventures. Since I couldn’t quite  slay all of my dragons in Corporate World over the past few days, I thought I’d try again here, today:

Fairy-tale Logic

Fairy tales are full of impossible tasks:
Gather the chin hairs of a man-eating goat,
Or cross a sulfuric lake in a leaky boat,
Select the prince from a row of identical masks,
Tiptoe up to a dragon where it basks
And snatch its bone; count dust specks, mote by mote,
Or learn the phone directory by rote.
Always it’s impossible what someone asks—

You have to fight magic with magic. You have to believe
That you have something impossible up your sleeve,
The language of snakes, perhaps, an invisible cloak,
An army of ants at your beck, or a lethal joke,
The will to do whatever must be done:
Marry a monster. Hand over your firstborn son.

– A.E. Stallings

I hope you all have wonderful, impossibly magical weekends, and I can’t wait to hear about them on Monday!

love amb

  1. Wow! Quite a week indeed…with you there for. Not looking like many weekend adventures, but after this week, I don’t think I can take dragons or magic or marrying a monster! Can’t wait to hear how your weekend goes! Xo

    • I will fill you in on everything soon, there was a lot going on! All good things, though 🙂 Meanwhile, I hope your weekend was relaxing and monster-free xoxoxoxo

  2. Glad you’re soon to escape CW for a few days and also that you have magical plans lined up for the weekend. (marrying a monster? I didn’t get a wedding invite. ?? ) Fun poem and I like that the author’s last name is Stallings. When there are multiple things I am stalling on, then am I stallings?

While I’m going to pass on gathering chin hairs from a man-eating goat (or anyone, really), I am all over this one: “You have to believe That you have something impossible up your sleeve.” How awesome and perfect is that. Absolutely how we’re meant to live. Sort of fake-it-’til-you-make it, though in the end just about believing in the superpowers we each carry. 😀 Go forth and conquer!

    • Teeheehee. I’m pretty sure it was a metaphorical monster, but if that changes and wedding bells start ringing around here, you’ll be the first to know!

Loving the idea of all of us having superpowers! Well said, Liz! 😀

  3. Does static electricity count as a super power? If yes, I believe we all have it at our finger tips. In which case, we’ll be powered up to conquer those impossible tasks. 🙂

If not, then at least we know there’s electricity between us (and the impossible task). 😉

I'd love to hear what you think!
